About Our Ingredients

We choose all organic (including some wild-sourced) ingredients that are raw, basic, and unprocessed (except where explicitly noted).

 

CACAO:

Only 10% of cacao trees in the world are wild.  We source our raw cacao paste & butter from Longevity Warehouse.  These ingredients are jungle harvested--not cultivated in a field.  And they are also fermented, which makes them probiotic, prebiotic, and naturally anti-microbial.  The shelf life is years.

 

HEMP & CACAO:

In addition to cacao, most of our products contain hemp hearts.  The benefits of hemp and its derivatives are finally being noticed after years of skepticism regarding how they relate to the illegal (in some states) cannabis plant.  Hemp is the plant that has been grown industrially for products like the canvas covering wagons that explored the wild west, the sails of ships that sailed the world, and the paper on which the Declaration of Independence is written.  Increased use of hemp has the potential to solve many of the environmental and health challenges we face today.  Hemp products are legal in all 50 states.  Anyone, including children, can safely ingest them without concern. 

CBD oils derived from hemp are used medicinally by many, but we only use organic hemp hearts and do not add any CBD extracts.  Hemp hearts are obtained from the center of the seed and are rich in healthy fats that our bodies convert into omega 3 oils for the brain, heart and vascular system.  Some of the components of both cacao and hemp include Anandamide and Phenylethylamine, also known as the bliss and love chemicals we make in our own brains.  There are many terpenes that occur in both the cannabis plant and the essential oils we use for flavoring, which are also shown to activate the endocannabinoid system.  That system of receptors is very much connected to the self healing mechanism that all mammals have.  So if you eat several pieces of our raw cacao treats you may experience some mild effects of BLISS-- maybe even pronounced effects!  Of course, that may also depend on who you share your treats with, and if you SMILE.

 

SWEETENERS: 

No agave nectar is used because it is similar to high-fructose corn syrup in the way it affects the liver.  We select raw organic coconut nectar from Coconut Secret because it is naturally low glycemic which, in reasonable amounts, does not raise blood sugar or stimulate insulin release.  We sweeten most of our products with small amounts of coconut nectar augmented by a few drops of liquid organic stevia (extracted from fresh stevia leaves).  Organic maple syrup may be used in some of our cheezecakes and elixirs, also augmented with organic stevia extract.

 

NUTS, SEEDS, & FRUITS:

We use dried hemp seed hearts, goji berries, mulberries, brazil nuts, raw untoasted cashews, coconut, and currants.  NO PEANUTS.

 

COLORS & FLAVORINGS:

Our colors are organic and sourced from local wild reishi mushroom, turmeric root powder, beet root powder, spirulina, and mulberry powder.  Organic natural flavors come from quality organic essential oils and essences obtained from Medicine Flower and Living Libations.  We use clove, orange, lime, pine, nutmeg, rose and others.  Spirulina, algae and organic raspberry crystals are from Just One Organics.  Celtic Sea Salt is from Selina Naturally, a wonderful local company in Asheville, NC. 

 

NO PRESERVATIVES are needed as these ingredients are naturally anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral & anti-bacterial.  If kept cool, they last for months.  Remember, chocolate melts!  If they melt in a warm car, just refrigerate to harden again and they should be fine.
